Steve O'Connor and Joel Anderson: What Inspired You to Make Music?

Steve O’Connor

I heard a band play at one of my public school assemblies. I was in grade 3 or something like that and the band was a group of guys from grade 8. It was the first time, other than on TV that I'd seen and heard real electric guitars, bass and drums through amps coming off of a stage. I remember thinking, "they should have a piano player.”

Joel Anderson

My parents had a copy of Ray Charles Live. I was probably 8 or 9 years old and the version of "What I'd Say" on that album seemed so exciting to me. I wanted to be part of whatever was going on in that room. Around the same time (late 60's) our next door neighbours had a teenage son who would practice drums with the window open. Eventually he let the little kid next door come in and check out the shiny drum set. He sent me on my way with a cymbal catalogue I wish I still had. Hooked for life!
